Tuesday night in Northeast Philadelphia, a gas explosion killed 1 person and injured another 5. The explosion happened around 8:30 when a 12 inch gas main exploded. Alerted to the smell of gas, firefighters and gas workers had cleared residents from homes in the area before the blast and were trying to address the leak to the gas line. Once the blast occurred, 2 homes and a gas truck were set on fire. The ball of flames rose 50 feet in the air and was felt over 2 miles away. Gas workers say it all started with a gas leak and a water main break that was noticed at approximately 7:30pm and it got out of control shortly after. "The street is all blown up," Mayor Michael Nutter said. Check out this video of the explosion. Call Kimberley Vassal Insurance Services today! Wednesday, January 19, 2011
