LoveFilm, which is the Netflix of Europe, has announced today that they are being bought by Amazon. They do DVD-by-mail rentals in the UK, Germany, Sweden, Norway and Denmark. They have recently moved to video streaming, first in the web browser form and then in devices like the Sony PlayStation 3. Amazon already has a significant minority shareholding in LoveFilm and deal has been rumored for some time, but now it’s official. The deal is expected to close in the first quarter of 2011.
